The Government decided in 2007 that the house buying process was taking too long and this was due mainly to the time it took solicitors to obtain certain documentations which are required by the buyer's banks and building societies before the funds are released

The purpose of the Home Information Pack (HIP) is to provide this information earlier in the process, to make buying easier and quicker thereby reducing costs and time
